my morning jacket - a cappella

Well, I'm still reeling from the Michael Jackson news. Seems pretty tragic. Although, I feel like for some of the later years of his life, he might have been half-alive anyway. He seemed like a sad human being. Hopefully he found some happiness in his children, and I feel pretty blue for them right about now. DANG. I brought this blog down. Now for something happy.

This has been floating on the internets, and I know it's been posted a million other places that love My Morning Jacket. But guess what, I also love MMJ, so I DON'T CARE. This is a cool video. The Carleton Singing Knights are performing "Wordless Chorus" a cappella. I did a little research and found these guys are from Carleton College in Minnesota.

How tight is this? I appreciate the lead singer so much. Also, that guy off to the side in his SOCKS (!!!) who is beat boxing the entire time. Big ups to that bro. Anyway, maybe this will put a smile on your mug after that totally bananas day yesterday.

Here's the original MMJ version:

200FINE in full effect, y'all!

I hope 2009 is going your way so far. I know the first few minutes of mine were pretty spectac. I was sweating my ass off dancing to "Get Down on It" and that really can't be topped. You know how I do! Yes, I'm referring to the concert of a lifetime at Madison Square Garden. My Morning Jacket totally destroyed the place and my face. They also left an imprint on my heart. Watching all those balloons drop on a crowd that CHOSE to spend that night with the band was so amazing. Also, that picture was taken without zoom. I WAS REALLY THAT CLOSE.

I will miss New York and hanging with all those sweet friends, new and old. I will not miss the snow and losing circulation in my toes just walking to the subway stop. But alas! It was wonderful. As Shelby would say in Steel Magnolias, "I would rather have a few minutes of wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special." Are you gagging yet?

I will be back in full effect soon with Tight People of the Day and all that jazz. I have some new music I'm excited to share with you all in this great year but I seriously needed some sleepy times today. Here are a few things I would like to accomplish this year:

1. Keep blogging and being amazed at how many people actually read this.
2. Record an album completely in Spanish.
3. Listen to soul music. (This shouldn't be hard.)
4. Rent an RV and drive somewhere in it with friends (serious dream come true).
5. Let go and let God.

And we're off into 200FINE. Keep it tight.

here we go!

It seems totally bananas to me that we are days away from 2009. I just can't believe another year has passed. Time is flying around. When I was 15, I just COULD NOT WAIT to be 16 so I could drive and it seemed like it literally took forever for my birthday to come. Now, I whip through birthdays like nobody's business. How did this happen?

I am going on the vacation of a lifetime to see My Morning Jacket at Madison Square Garden on New Year's Eve. Ridic. I won't be around to blog and wish you all a very happy new year, so I'm going to do it now. I hope that your first moments of 2009 are filled with merriment and joy. I love the new year for a few reasons, but mostly because it feels like you get a new chance and a new start. Leave all that other shit behind! Feel the waves of "Auld Lang Syne" wash over you. Make some resolutions that you can break in two weeks! I'm just being real.

Seriously, thanks for reading this blog for eight months and making me feel good about writing out of my butt. I wish we could all go to New York together and then party in a hot tub. Here's a little something from me to you. Enjoy this song by The Notations. A new day, a new year, NEW BEGINNING. See you next year. Love you.

two of my favorite things have united

Everyone knows I'm a My Morning Jacket fan. If you don't, where have you been? Also, everyone knows that I secretly wish to be Erykah Badu in a gigantic and huge way. A portrait of Erykah lives in my bedroom with me and makes me feel safe and peaceful. Is that tight? The point is, these are two of my favorite things in life. MMJ and Badu. Well, guess what? Erykah joined the band on stage the other night in Dallas (Dallas!) to play "Tyrone," a song of hers they have definitely covered for a while. I wish I could have been there. It's a badass song to begin with, then add in some guitars and nice dudes, and then throw in Erykah's flowing dress and hair and vocals and spiritual presence and I think I just passed out. Michael Phelps is going to wake up in a cold sweat every morning after he sees this because nothing he has done can top this. Yeah, I said it.

The sound quality on this video is a bit shit, but basically I just want to tinkle when Erykah comes on stage. There a few more shorter vids on YouTube if you want a better sound. Seriously, I had a smile plastered on my face the entire time I watched this. My ears and eyes have bled gold, my friends. I seriously cannot get over this.

edit: I found an alternate video with better sound and a closer Baduview.
