the daktaris

RIP Desco but I'm so glad Daptone was born from you.

Desco Records was around in the mid nineties and focused on providing quality soul 45s. The Daktaris recorded on Desco before its demise and eventual growth into Daptone and Soul Fire (RIP Soul Fire but their stuff is on Truth & Soul now). A lot of the Daktaris guys went on to become members of Antibalas.

I really just love their Afro-beat sound and this song is TBTH:

TOO BALLER TO HANDLE.

Time to make a Moscow Mule and get a little back yard chill sesh action happening with this on the background.

tight person of the day: fela kuti

Um, can anyone say badass? Fela Kuti fits the description. A lot of folks on this blog are big fans of this Nigerian music master. His amazing Afrobeat music truly proves that anyone can love pure and good music. Fela touches everyone and it does not matter color or creed. He is incredibly influential and super tight. Fela's son Femi is carrying the torch these days and is also worth checking out. I hope you listen to these and dance around but also appreciate the power.

2000 Blacks Got To Be Free - Fela Kuti

The above video is really long, but worth watching for a bit anyway. Long live Fela.
